What is a Big Barrel Baseball Bat?

A big barrel baseball bat is a term used to describe a bat which is neither a youth barrel baseball bat or a BBCOR baseball bat. Big barrel baseball bats are often referred to as “Senior League” bats. Big Barrel bats have either a 2 3/4 or 2 5/8 inch maximum barrel. Their weight can be anywhere from a drop 5 to a drop 14. (Drop is the numerical difference between the length of the bat in inches and the weight of the bat in ounces).

Big barrel baseball bats are used by players in rec and comp leagues that allow for ‘big barrels’. Some leagues allow up to 2 3/4 while some others only allow up to 2 5/8.

These are not to be confused with “Little League” barrels which are, at least until 2018, only 2 1/4 maximum.
