Bat For the BlindI got an email from Louisville Slugger about an honorary bat made for Stevie Wonder that was produced for him in Braille. I thought it was worth sharing the pictures and idea behind it. For those who can’t read braille, the writing says:

STEVIE WONDER
SONGS IN THE KEY OF LIFE TOUR
MARCH 27, 2015
LOUISVILLE, KY

Per their Email:

Louisville Slugger’s bat factory has created what we think is the first-ever baseball bat to be engraved in Braille, and it will be given as a gift to Stevie Wonder when he performs at the YUM! Center on Friday, March 27, in Louisville, Ky.

The factory used its laser-engraver to place the typical Louisville Slugger branding on one side, the famous oval logo, the KFC Yum! Center logo, and the following on the barrel (both in English and in Braille):

STEVIE WONDER
SONGS IN THE KEY OF LIFE TOUR
MARCH 27, 2015
LOUISVILLE, KY

The staff at Louisville’s own American Printing House for the Blind created the computer file that was used by the laser-engraver. The bat is a maple finish with orange and white accents, mirroring the colors of Wonder’s hit album “Songs in the Key of Life,” which he is currently performing on tour. The company made replicas of the Stevie Wonder braille bats that are now on display at the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory.

Louisville Slugger and the KFC Yum! Center partner on special bats as gifts to most of the big name acts that play at the facility.

Bat For the BlindThis bat, which I don’t think is for sale anywhere, can be put with the other slugger line for 2015: 915 Prime, 715 Select, 515 Omaha and Catalyst.
