In short, we like the Voodoo in the 2018 USABat space. Do note, however, we are talking about the USA DeMarini Voodoo NOT the DeMarini Voodoo One. The USABat Voodoo One (that we review here) is a single piece bat. The Voodoo we review here is a much different swing as DeMarini uses a proven connective piece that dampens sting considerably. It is also noticeably more expensive than the One and, in our opinion, should be.
Voodoo vs Voodoo One vs Balance vs Insane
As a general rule, we are huge fans of DeMarini and their Voodoo Line. But, as a general rule for a blog that keeps track of every performance bat on the planet, the naming scheme of the Voodoo series for 2018 is flat out killing us. Making the list of 2018 Voodoo Bats look something like this.
- BBCOR Voodoo One Balanced
- BBCOR Voodoo Balanced
- BBCOR Voodoo Insane
- USABat Voodoo One Balanced
- USABat Voodoo Balanced
There are probably a few missed, even. But, for now, that list will do. Each of those bats are remarkably different in, if not composition, then swing weight and very much worth keeping straight. And keeping them straight for our readers to find is, to say the least, a difficult task.

Best Place to Buy
As an entry level bat found under the umbrella of a massive brands (DeMarini) that is also carried under another massive brand (Wilson) expect to find the DeMarini Voodoo in most serious bat stores online. The price point makes it a reasonable carry for a place like Dick's and Modell's too, but our advice would be to stay online for the best pricing. As always, we'd check Amazon first and then go from there.
2018 Voodoo USABat Recommendations
Althogh we are just in the first year of USABats, we really like the principles that hybrid bats bring to the table. An aluminum barrel brings good durability and, as far as we have measured, produces great ball exit speeds out of the wrapper. The two piece design leads to aggresive swings by kids who shy away from hand sting.
As such, we quickly and highly recommend the DeMarini Voodoo drop 10 for any USABat player looking for one of the best bats in the space. Although we wish the barrel was a bit larger, we are in love with the smooth smash even on mishits and the great out of the wrapper performance of the X14 alloy which DeMarini has all but perfected over the years.
In short, if you are in the drop 10 space and willing to spend the money necessary to acquire this bat then we are confident you will not be disappointing.
Not much has changed in the traditional Demarini Voodoo (hybrid) line of bats. DeMarini has produced a high end two piece hybrid, under the same bat line name, longer than anyone we have been keeping track of.
There is a reason for that.
Few companies have perfected any bat like DeMarini has honed in a two piece hybrid stick. And we have yet to pick up a hybrid Voodoo from Demarini that we did not love one way or the other.
DeMarini did, we should note, upgrade their connective piece from a D-Fusion to the 3-Fusion this year (compared to 2017). The new design removed some bulk and weight from the connective piece and allowed engineers to add more of that mass in areas that could use more durability and performance.
Voodoo USABat Comparables
The three major competitors for two piece hybrid bats in the drop 10 USABat space are the 718 Select from Slugger and the Beast X Hybrid from Easton. We have hit everyone of these bats extensively during the first few months of production. Each bat performs well enough to be considered a top tier bat.
We like the barrel size of the Drop 10 Beast X Hybrid of the whole bunch. But, the Beast X Hybrid also runs well over its stated weight that some might struggle to swing it like the DeMarini Voodoo or 718 drop 10s.
DeMarini Voodoo One Sizing
The Voodoo in USABat has one of the largest size selections in the newly minted bat niche. It ranges from a 28 to 32 inch length all in a drop 10.
Although not readily available at the time of this writing, we have heard rumors DeMarini's Voodoo in the USABat will have both the drop 10 in a 2 5/8 and a drop 9 in a 2 1/2 inch version. We have seen some demos of the 2 1/4 barrel but none of them actually for sale.
- Drop 10 2 5/8: 28, 29, 30, 31 and 32-inch
- Drop 9 2 1/4: ?
