Have you tried this baseball bat? Let us know what you think. Review this Bat!

2017 brings a number of new bats to the limelight. Rawlings 2017 line of bats is as exciting a set of performance bats as any released this year. Their previous iterations of the VELO and 5150 have graced all levels of the sport across the country. Here we give a general overview of what to expect with our 2017 Rawlings Bat Reviews with the links to each individual review. As more data is gathered, and more players get these in their hands, we will update this page.

2017 Rawlings VELO

2017 Rawlings Bat Reviews

For several years, the VELO from Rawlings has been one of the most popular bats. (See our full 2017 Rawlings VELO review here). There are at least a few reasons for this:

  • The VELO ultra light swing (made possible by an extended composite end cap and a tappered inner barrel design)
  • Its massive barrel
  • The bat’s recognizable ping (we can recognize this bat by its sound easier than any other bat)
  • Great name recognition

In line with our expectations and the bat’s popularity, a 2017 Rawlings VELO will soon grace batter’s boxes. Once again the VELO will come with its signature ping and balanced swing weight. The extended composite end cap and unique inner barrel design will be present in the 2017 version as well.

Rawlings will stagger the release of the bat, beginning with BBCOR and following up with Senior League and Big Barrel versions. Expect an option in every size imaginable. When we get more experience with the bat, expect a dedicated review published on this site. in the mean time, you can do a price check here.

2017 Rawlings 5150

2017 Rawlings Bat Reviews

While not as popular as the VELO, the 5150 matches the VELO in its likeability. This is the epitome of an all weather value bat in the performance space. Previous versions of the 5150 focus on a light swing within an alloy bat. The barrel size, at least for a single piece aluminum, is noteworthy. (Rawlings 5150 Price Check)

In 2016, Rawlings released 5150 in the hybrid space. That is, a two piece bat with a composite handle and the aluminum barrel of the 5150. As of right now, that doesn’t appear to be the case with the 2017 version. Likely due to the addition of the Quatro this year, Rawlings’ 2017 5150 only comes in a single piece alloy design. New to the 2017 line of Rawlings bats is the addition of a bat named Quatro. Some have claimed it is an upgrade to the TRIO from 2016, but we think it different enough to be considered an entirely new line. It is, at least in the BBCOR space, Rawlings’ first crack at a two piece composite design. In 2016, Rawlings released a VELO Composite. This was a two piece composite design. It was, however, released only as a Senior League (big barrel) version.

The Rawlings Quatro is a three piece bat with a focus on a silicone collar placed between the barrel and handle of the bat. This collar’s intent is to dampen vibration transferred from the barrel to the handle on mishits. We review this on our 2017 Rawlings Bat Review page in detail.

The bat will release in at least a BBCOR and 2 3/4 version. The 2 3/4 will be a drop 10. We will see if they add more sizes to the line up as the year progresses.

2017 Rawlings Quatro Fastpitch

2017 Rawlings Bat Reviews

In addition to a new line of baseball bats called the Quatro, Rawlings also releases a new line of fastpitch bats. The more expensive of the two is the Quatro. The Fastpitch Quatro is comprised with a composite handle, composite barrel and silicone collar. (Rawlings Quatro Price Check)

Rawlings’ first foray into the two piece composite fastpitch space is an interesting move considering Worth’s success in the market. (Worth is owned by the Rawlings brand). The fact they’ve yet to release any fastpitch bats under the Worth brand makes us wonder if the idea is to focus resources on the Rawlings brand in the fastpitch space. Time will tell.

The fastpitch Quatro is a drop 9 and built for stronger, more advanced hitters. Those looking for a lighter swinging, more entry level bat with a Rawlings brand name should look for the new fastpitch VELO.

We will add our review to this page when we get our hands on the bat.

2017 Rawlings VELO

2017 Rawlings Bat Reviews

In addition to a drop 9 Rawlings Quatro fastpitch bat, Rawlings will also release a brand new VELO in the fastpitch space. Like other VELO bats, although none yet in the fastpitch realm, the VELO will focus on a light swing and big barrel. This bat is a drop 11 and built for the smaller, more entry level players. (Amazon Price Check)

It will come as a two piece composite, like the Quatro, but won’t have the silicone collar to help dampen sting. This may be the most exciting iteration Rawlings adds to their line up in 2017. The VELO name is as synonymous with great bats as just about any other on the market. When we get our hands on the bat in the next few months, we’ll be sure to put up a full review.

2017 Rawlings Bat Reviews: Overviews
