There are a number of places to look for more information on the 2017 DeMarini slow pitch bats. We liked DeMarini’s product pages as well as cheapbats 2016 section on the DeMarini slow pitch line. As well, Amazon’s product section on the DeMarini’s softball bats was mildly helpful. So was our 2016 DeMarini One Review
DeMarini releases seven new iterations on their famous slow pitch line for 2017. They include some touch ups on two Flippers, two Juggy’s and a Women’s focused Mercy bat. New to the line are the Newbreed GTS, which is a take on the baseball and fastpitch bats in a softball line, and a value bat in the single piece aluminum space called the Ultimate Weapon.
In time we will review each of these bats. Below are some highlights to serve as an overview going into the 2017 season.
The 2017 NewBreed GTS slowpitch bat is a new take for this year’s class. It runs a ZnX handle, as is found on the Flipper bats, but uses the new Paraflex composite on the barrel. That Paraflex composite is the same Demarini uses on its top shelf bats in the baseball and fastpitch spaces.
The 2017 DeMarini Flipper OG is a two piece bat with an aluminum handle and a composite barrel. This “reverse hybrid” design (aluminum handle and composite barrel) creates great stiffness in the hands to contact, but leaves a buttery smash with the composite barrel. This is the top shelf bat in DeMarini’s slow pitch space. The OG is a balanced version of the bat that is approved for ASA only. It has a dual composite walled 13″ barrel.
Like the Flipper OG, but with an end loaded feel, the Flipper USA bat from DeMarini is a two piece composite bat built with that same aluminum handle and composite barrel. Hitters who like this bat prefer big bombs and a smooth feel through contact. The connective design makes it feel like every hit is going yard—although some won’t. This bat comes with a 12″ barrel and uses the same dual walled approach for a fast break-in that the OG version has. This is also an ASA bat.
DeMarini’s Juggy may be the most popular bat in their lineup. This year’s OVL is a traditional two-piece composite bat with the famed D-Fusion 2.0 handle that DeMarini uses across their entire line up of both fastpitch and baseball bats. The barrel this year is a triple stacked composite that makes for a super quick break-in time and improved performance along the length of the barrel. The OVL is ASA approved.
The DB44 is a USSSA bat in the same vein as the Juggy OVL. That is, it is a two piece composite built with the tried and tested D-Fusion 2.0 handle and a triple stacked composite barrel that allows for a very fast work in time.
The Mercy slow pitch bat from DeMarini is a single piece composite built with a very light swing made specifically for women slow pitch players. It is an ASA bat with a 13″ barrel, proven to make a lot of contact. There is no noticeable difference between the 2017 and the 2016 models of the DeMarini Mercy.
DeMarini’s NewBreed GTS is a fun and new iteration to the 2017 line. Likely replacing DeMarini’s 2016 Stadium CL22, the NewBreed runs a reverse hybrid design with a ZxN alloy handle and the new 2017 Paraflex Composite on the barrel. It is a USSSA bat built with professional players in mind, and in fact, is designed directly after the professional NewBreed team’s specifications.
The Ultimate Weapon is one of a few single piece aluminum slow pitch bats on the market. This is a value model bat built to be legal in both ASA and USSSA. Don’t expect much in terms of top shelf performance, but do expect a lot in terms of durability. This is a decent cold weather slowpitch bat, and for the brand name at least, a decent price too.
